Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi AI Camera

A 12 MP camera that runs the neural network on the sensor itself. Object detection without loading the Pi at all.

Strengths

  • AI runs on the camera, leaving the Pi free for your code
  • Works with every Raspberry Pi, including the Zero
  • Low cost and low power

Trade-offs

  • Limited to small vision models; no LLMs
  • Custom models need converting for the IMX500

Most “AI on a Pi” setups make the Pi do the AI work. The AI Camera moves it onto the image sensor: Sony’s IMX500 runs a neural network itself and hands the Pi the results, such as “person at these coordinates”.

That makes it the easiest entry into maker AI. Wildlife cameras, people counters, a camera that watches your print bed, or a robot that follows a ball all work on a Pi Zero, because the Pi barely has to do anything.

Its limit is model size. It runs compact vision models, not language models. When you outgrow it, the AI HAT+ 2 or a Jetson Orin Nano is the next step.

AIMeshy

Meshy

Text-to-3D and image-to-3D generator with STL export and plugins for the major slicers, including Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer.

Best for Decorative prints like figurines, props, ornaments and game pieces, where the look matters more than exact dimensions.

AINVIDIA

NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit

A small computer with a real GPU. Runs vision models, small LLMs and robotics stacks on-device, without the cloud.

Best for Robots, smart cameras and drones that need serious on-board AI, and learning CUDA and edge AI.

AIObico

Obico

AI failure detection for 3D printers. Watches your webcam, spots spaghetti and failed prints, and pauses the job.

Best for Klipper and OctoPrint users who leave long prints running unattended.
