Makera
Makera Carvera Air
Enclosed desktop CNC with a quick-change tool system and closed-loop motion. Cuts aluminium, wood and PCBs.
Strengths
- Enclosure contains chips and noise
- Closed-loop motion and probing simplify setup
- Mills aluminium and brass, not just wood
Trade-offs
- Tool changes are manual; the full Carvera automates them
- Small spindle, so cuts are light and patient
Most desktop CNC routers arrive as a kit of extrusions and stepper motors and need weeks of tuning. The Carvera Air arrives enclosed, with probing and closed-loop motion, so your first job is cutting, not building.
The 200 W spindle is small, so aluminium is cut with many light passes rather than heavy ones. For the parts a maker typically needs, like brackets, enclosures, engraved panels and single-sided PCBs, that is fine.
Price note: Makera lists the Air at $2,699 and runs frequent sales. Check the link before buying.
